Tooth Extractions

Tooth Extraction and Wisdom Teeth Removal

We aim to save every tooth, but it isn’t always possible. So if you ever need a tooth extracted, our team at Belwell Dental will make sure your experience is as comfortable as possible.

The removal of teeth can be done by either a dentist or oral surgeons (dentists specially trained in performing surgery).

Initially your dentist will inject a local anaesthetic to help numb the area around the tooth that is going to be removed. A stronger general anaesthetic will be used if your tooth is impacted (stuck in gum tissue usually due to overcrowding) or if you are having more than one tooth removed. A general anaesthetic will make you sleep through the procedure.

Tooth Extractions

What should I expect when I have an extraction?

Your visit will begin with a consultation with one of our dentists, who will explain how the treatment will work and answer any questions you may have.

On the day of your appointment, we recommend that you arrive a few minutes to give yourself a chance to relax and ask any additional questions before the procedure.

During the procedure, we will use the latest techniques, equipment, and materials to ensure that the extraction is performed safely and efficiently. Our priority is making sure that you are comfortable throughout the process by using local anaesthetic to numb the area.

You will be able to communicate with your dentist during the process, so please let them know if you need any adjustment or if you feel uncomfortable.

After the procedure, you will be provided with detailed post-operative instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.

This can include some discomfort and swelling in the affected area, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication and ice packs. You should also expect some minor bleeding for the first day or two, and it is essential to follow the instructions for caring for the extraction site as directed.

Our team of skilled and experienced dentists are proficient in performing dental extractions in a safe and efficient manner, while ensuring that you are as comfortable as possible throughout the process.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the third-last permanent molars. Most people have four wisdom teeth, two in the upper jaw and two in the lower jaw. These teeth are commonly called wisdom teeth because they usually erupt between the ages of 16 to 21, known as the ‘age of wisdom’. A wisdom tooth is impacted when it is obstructed from erupting fully into the mouth by the tooth in front of it or the surrounding bone or gums.

We understand that some patients may have concerns or questions after the procedure, and our team will be available to answer any questions you may have and provide additional support as needed.
