What are dentures & Bridges?

Dentures are a removable dental appliance that replaces your missing teeth. They are custom-made to fit your mouth and can be taken out and put back in as needed. They can improve your ability to eat, speak and smile.

At Belwell Dental we offer complete, full, partial, overdentures, and flexible dentures by Velplast or Sunflex.

What different types of material are dentures available in?

Currently, traditional dentures are typically made from acrylic resin or a combination of acrylic resin and other materials such as porcelain or metal. They can also be made of flexible thermoplastic material (flexible dentures).

Are Dentures & Bridges right for you?

Dentures may be a good option for you if you are missing multiple teeth, or if you are unable to have other solutions, such as bridges or implants.

Many of our patients in Sutton Coldfield realise how much dentures help to support the structure of their face and jaw. Often, when you lose teeth, the facial structures tend to ‘sink in’, which can give you a more aged appearance.

By having dentures, it helps to support the external structures of the face, giving you a more youthful, healthy look.  However, It is important to discuss your needs with your dentist to determine if dentures are the right choice for you.

WHAT ARE FLEXIBLE DENTURES?

Flexible dentures are a type of dental prosthesis used to replace missing teeth. They are made from a thin, flexible material that allows for a comfortable fit and increased movement within the mouth. Unlike traditional dentures, which are often made from rigid materials like acrylic, flexible dentures offer a more natural feel and a greater range of motion when speaking, eating, and smiling.

One of the key benefits of flexible dentures is their improved comfort level compared to traditional dentures. The material used in flexible dentures is much lighter and more flexible than traditional denture materials, which can often cause discomfort, pressure, and pain for some wearers. The flexible material is also less likely to cause irritation to the gums and other soft tissues in the mouth.

Another benefit of flexible dentures is their improved stability and retention compared to traditional dentures. Flexible dentures are designed to conform to the shape of the mouth, making them less likely to slip or move when speaking or eating. This improved stability can also help prevent jawbone loss and other negative impacts that can result from the use of traditional dentures.

Flexible dentures are also easier to clean and maintain than traditional dentures. The flexible material does not absorb stains or odours like traditional denture materials, and it is also more resistant to damage and breakage. This can help extend the life of the denture and reduce the need for frequent replacements.
