What is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is a quick, non-invasive treatment that can drastically improve the appearance of your teeth and restore their function.

It involves applying a tooth-coloured composite resin material to the surface of your teeth. The material is shaped, sculpted and hardened with a special light to create a seamless, natural-looking finish.

Is composite bonding the ideal option for your teeth?

This is a question that is best left for your consultation with one of our dentists. However, these are a few factors to consider in case you are thinking about it;

  • Your goals: It can depend on what you want from your treatment, and how long you want it to stay flawless. There are alternative options available, but composite bonding remains popular for patients who want a solution that is quick and painless.

  • Your budget: Composite bonding is an affordable option, compared to other cosmetic dentistry options such as veneers or crowns. It can be a great solution for those who want to improve their smile without breaking the bank.

  • The condition of your teeth: If you have a lot of decay or wear on your teeth, other cosmetic options may be more appropriate.

  • Lifestyle: Bonding may require touch-ups or replacement over time. If you have a busy lifestyle or are not able to maintain good oral hygiene, other options may be more suitable.

  • Your expectations: It’s important to have realistic expectations about the outcome of the treatment, composite bonding is not an ideal solution for every case, and it’s important to understand the benefits and limitations of the procedure.

What should I expect if I have composite bonding?

Once the consultation process is complete,  your dentist will perform the treatment over a few appointments depending upon the complexity of your requirements.

Your dentist will start by preparing the surface of your tooth by roughening it slightly and applying a bonding agent. This will help the composite resin material stick to the tooth.

The composite resin material is then applied to your teeth and sculpted to the desired shape. Your dentist will shape and mold the resin to match the colour and shape of your natural teeth.

Once the composite resin is shaped and sculpted to the desired form, it is hardened with a special light.

The final step is to polish the tooth, giving it a natural shine that blends in seamlessly with your existing teeth.

Composite Edge Bonding

What is composite edge bonding?

Composite edge bonding is where composite bonding material is applied only to the edge of your tooth to improve its appearance.

Many patients are choosing composite edge bonding to perfect the look of their teeth to give a symmetrical, even and dazzling finish.

Composite edge bonding can be used to make uneven, worn or jagged teeth appear neat, straight and level.

If you have a chipped tooth, composite edge bonding can straighten the edge so that the chipped tooth appears smooth and in line with the rest of your teeth.
