FIXED BRACES TREATMENT
STRAIGHTEN YOUR SMILE WITH PREDICTABLE, RELIABLE FIXED BRACES
What are fixed braces?
Fixed braces are a type of orthodontic treatment that use brackets and wires to straighten and align your teeth. They are bonded to your teeth, and can only be removed by one of our orthodontists.
How do they work?
Fixed braces work by applying gentle pressure to the teeth over time, gradually moving them into the desired position. The braces consist of brackets and wires that are bonded to the teeth.
The brackets hold the wire in place, and the wire applies pressure to the teeth, gradually moving them into the correct position. The wire is adjusted over time to maintain and adjust the force on the teeth.
With fixed braces treatment, you can expect regular check-ups and adjustments with our orthodontist to monitor progress and ensure your teeth are moving as planned.
How long does it usually take?
It can vary depending on your teeth, but typically treatment can range from 6 months to 2 years.
The length of treatment time depends on how much movement your teeth need, and the specific needs of the patient. Simple cases may take as little as 6 months to a year, while more complex cases may take up to 2 or 3 years.
Our dentists will be able to give you a more accurate estimate of the treatment time after a comprehensive examination.

Does it hurt?
You may get some initial discomfort or soreness immediately after the braces are applied, and after each adjustment visit. This is normal and usually subsides within a few days.
Some patients may experience more discomfort than others, but most are able to manage it with over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen. It’s also common to have some discomfort when eating certain foods, like hard or sticky food, while wearing braces.
Rest assured, the discomfort caused by fixed braces is usually mild and temporary. If the discomfort persists or becomes severe, it is important to contact us to discuss any necessary adjustments or solutions to alleviate the discomfort.
Looking after metal braces
Food and plaque can easily get stuck in fixed braces, so be extra careful with your oral hygiene routine. If you don’t keep your teeth and braces clean, you can end up with permanent marks on your teeth, so brush twice a day and make sure to floss too.
It’s also a good idea to see a hygienist and your general dentist for regular check-ups.
